Warrington 16 Hillside Hawks 50
MATCH REPORT
Hillside continued their excellent form against a Warrington team of Amazonian proportions who were last years Plate cup winners. The visitors opened the scoring after just two minutes when second row Dee Llewellyn seized upon a fine cross field kick to score in the corner and provide the opportunity for Andrea Dobson to add a superb touchline conversion, but the lead was short lived as poor handling in defence gave the home side a scrum ten metres out and just two plays later Warrington?s Sarah Eden darted in directly from acting half for a try which Hussey converted. Hawks, undaunted by this error swept upfield, led by the drives of Dobson and Joennie Aspin providing a platform for the creativity of half backs Terri Davey who prompted some tremendous handling moves. Twice within six minutes centre Jenny Welsby fed superb passes for Ashley Deas to score a brace of tries on the left wing, the first of which was converted by Dobson.
With the score at 6-16 the game was still wide open and Warrington got within five metres of the visitors line but, from the play the ball Hawks full back Sarah Harrison produced an outrageous interception and raced the length of the field for a breathtaking score under the posts and Dobson?s third conversion, her 100th for the club. Seven minutes later Welsby produced the final score of the half, fooling the defence completely by feigning a pass to the wing before stepping inside to cross the line herself.
In the second half Hillside continued to progress with the same blend of strong defence and superb handling leading to a hat-trick try for Deas and a try which capped a fine display from centre Hannah Robinson whilst Warrington replied once again through their earlier combination of Eden and Hussey. The right wings of both sides the swapped tries, Zoe Robinson for Hillside and Nichola Blondon for Warrington but the game was now over as a contest and further tries were added for Hawks by Becky Watson and Dobson with the latter adding two more conversions.
